Please know that these carpools are not guaranteed, nor are they mandatory. If you would like to make alternative transportation arrangements, please contact the BSP coordinator (Blake Stack, firstname.lastname@example.org). It is up to you to contact the person you hope to carpool with at least one week ahead of time. Carpool contact information can be found within your exploration schedule.

Sending an introductory email to your site supervisors is an important part of making the most of your exploration rotations. (Contact information can be found above.) Take a moment to introduce yourself, explain your interest in their organization, and remind them of the dates and times that you will be coming. Here's a sample email:
Thanks for having me as a Bonner explorer at Higher Achievement over the next two weeks. I look forward to learning more about your work to close the achievement gap here in Richmond.
As a reminder, I will coming on Tuesday, October 20 and Tuesday, October 27 from 4:30 to 6:00. Please let me know if I need to do anything in advance to prepare for our time.
In the event of an academic conflict and/or an unexpected illness you are not able to attend your exploration visit, you must contact your supervisor, the UR transportation office and/or the person you are carpooling with as soon as possible (ideally 24-48 hours prior to the exploration time slot).
If it is only an hour or two prior, please make a phone call.
If you still have a day ahead of you, it's appropriate to send an email. When sending an email, be sure to "cc" the BSP coordinator and your class advisor when you do so. Here's a sample email (your site supervisor contact information can be found below):

Thanks for having me as a Bonner Explorer at Richmond Public Schools (RPS) this past week. It was a great opportunity to learn more about the education initiatives you are implementing at the local high school.
Unfortunately, I caught the flu over the weekend and I will not be able to come to RPS during my upcoming exploration visit scheduled for Tuesday from 3:30 to 5:30 pm. I will miss having the opportunity to explore your organization a second time.
At the end of the first semester, Bonner Scholars apply to three nonprofit community partners in an effort to secure a 3 and 1/2 year internship. The long-term nature of these internships affords students the opportunity to participate in increasingly complex work over time. In return, the nature of one's impact is often deeper and more meaningful.
Students need to upload a pdf version of their resume in addition to a pdf version of three cover letters to their top three organizations into their Bonner eFolder by Sunday, December 10. (Cover letters and resumes submitted after this date will not be considered.)
Bonner eFolders can be found in your Google Drive under the "Shared with me" menu item. It will be labeled "Bonner eFolder - [Student Name]."
Students who need help creating their cover letters and resumes should explore the career services website for more resources.
